English Culture Guide: Paula Bardell A note from Paula: I have a long-standing fascination with the various cultures of the United Kingdom, and have spent many years contributing features to numerous guide-books, magazines and journals on the subjects of travel, culture and history. I had great fun as the English Culture Guide for About.com from 1997 to 2001, quickly building up a lively and loyal band of followers from all corners of the globe. When About axed its entire Cultures' network in September 2001, I became the English Culture Correspondent for All Info-About - an online community created by ex About Guides at: http://www.allinfo-about.com/. All Info-About English Culture concerns the people of England and the way they perceive themselves (the way others perceive them too). I attempt to discover to what extent England's history has influenced its people, and what, if any, of its ancient traditions and customs still thrive in modern society. I also examine England's creative minds, faiths, eccentricities, fashions, scientific discoveries, heroes, miscreants, feuds, leaders, everyday folk and minority cultures. In short, English society is being held up to scrutiny; not in an academic or intellectual way, but via an ever-growing series of features and pages of information that can be enjoyed and utilised by everyone who uses the Internet - from teachers and students to ex-pats and the plain curious.
