About this site.... FormerAboutGuides.com was launched shortly after About.com decided to trim 300 of their 900 topic guides in September 2001. The rationale, no doubt, was to stem the bleeding of red ink the company was experiencing. But it left 300 former guides stranded. They had a following but no longer had a medium to communicate with their audience. Many launched their own independent websites. Indeed, many already had their own separate websites. So I created this website as an index to what these and other former About Guides are doing now. The navigation is simple, just click on the alphabetic index above that leads to the topic the guide covered. If you are a former About Guide, even if you were not one of the ones laid off in 2001, and would like to be added to our index, go to the following page: template.htm, right click it and save it. Now in a web page editor or in Notepad or some other text editor, open the page and edit it, inserting your own information. Make sure to add the relevant keywords as well as title, etc. Don't change any of the HTML formatting information. (If you don't want to see the formatting information, Microsoft Word will show you the page without the formatting.) Then send it as an email attachment to me at: Marco den Ouden
