I started a Scottish-related links site named Rampant Scotland Directory six years ago. It was because of this site that Mining Co (later to become About.com) got in touch with me in 1998 about becoming their "Scottish Culture" Guide. Since at that time nobody else was writing about Scotland I  interpreted "Culture" very loosely and so created features on places to visit, photo libraries, entertainment, current affairs, an illustrated calendar and Scottish castles as well as clan/family histories, traditional songs, recipes, history and famous Scots. By September 2001 I had over 2,000 feature pages, over 2,000 illustrations and nearly 400,000 pages views a month, putting Scottish Culture in the top 20% of About.com Guide sites.

When About.com decided to cut back on the number of subjects covered and go for e-commerce rather than content, I set about recreating many of the features on my personal site -http://www.RampantScotland.com Within a month over 1,000 pages were set up with over 1,200 illustrations - and that's just the start! And of course the original links site is a lot bigger - over 10,000 URLs. This site also has a Scottish Newsletter weekly providing an insight into what has been happening in Scotland, snipped from the Scottish media, for Scots in Scotland and abroad.
